The depth of field is a part of the picture that stands out compared to the rest of the image. The depth of field is where the main subject is more focused or central compared to the rest. It is a personal opinion of the photographer to make the depth of field a big part of the image, it can be used to enhance an effect of the photograph.

Film and Digital Sensor by Ryan, Rachel and kevin

In photography, film consists of cellulose nitrate or a cellulose acetate composition made in thin sheets or strips and coated with a sensitive emulsion for taking photographs. When the emulsion is exposed to light, it forms a latent image. Chemical processes can then be applied to the film to create a visible image, in a process called film developing.

A digital camera uses a sensor array of millions of tiny pixels in order to produce the final image. When you press your camera's shutter button and the exposure begins, each of these pixels has a "photosite" which is uncovered to collect and store photons in a cavity. Once the exposure finishes, the camera closes each of these photosites, and then tries to assess how many photons fell into each. The relative quantity of photons in each cavity are then sorted into various intensity levels, whose precision is determined by bit depth (0 - 255 for an 8-bit image).

Kelvin Degrees are used to measure color temperature. The higher the color temperature (5000 K or more), the cooler the colors (blueish white); the lower the color temperature (2700-300 K), the warmer the colours (yellowish white through red). When taking a picture, the colour balance has to be taken into consideration.
"Film is made for specific light sources (most commonly daylight film and artificial light film), and used properly, will create a neutral color print. Matching the sensitivity of the film to the color temperature of the light source is one way to balance color. Filters on a camera lens, or color gels over the light source(s) may also be used to correct color balance."(Wikipedia)

Wide Angle Lens - Shoshana and Liya

A wide angle lens refers to a lens whose focal length is substantially shorter than the focal length of a normal lens for the image size produced by the camera, whether this is dictated by the dimensions of the image frame at the film plane for film cameras film format or dimensions of the photo sensor for digital camera.
It also projects a substantially larger image circle than would be typical for a standard design lens of the same focal length; this enables either large tilt & shift movements with a view camera, or lenses with wide fields of view.
There is an easy formula for calculating the angle of view for any lens that produces a rectilinear image. In addition to giving a wider angle of view, the image produced by a wide-angle lens is more susceptible to perspective distortion than that produced by a normal lens, because they tend to be used much closer to the subject.

Lonely Lemons by Christa

I enjoyed taking pictures of the fruit last class. I really liked these 2 photos the best. In the first one, I like how I am totally drawn to the lone lemon even though there is so much going on in the picture. In the second one I still feel like I am drawn to the same lemon even though it is a different perspective.

Seems like everywhere you go in Italia, you are surrounded by the beauty of wine bottles everywhere! This photo brings you in and has some depth. It allows you to see the large quantity of wine bottles. So many choices!

Villa Borguese: Liya

Since I did not make it last time, I thought I'd go to Villa Borguese & explore its beauty. These are a couple of pictures I took.

I really like this photo because of the variety of colors, and because the colors range from very light to very dark. I also think the view of the ocean from this perspective is very interesting, because it is like peeking through the buildings of the town out into the vast openness of the ocean.
